One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. – Bob Marley
Mr. Marley’s genius is an uncontested fact. Live music has a special something that can ease my mind and soul on the worst day. I don’t care who’s singing as long as it’s live, BUT in this economy, it’s not so easy to enjoy live music without my wallet feeling pain. Call me crazy, but I don’t want to drop a hundred bucks to sit in the nosebleeds and sip on overpriced drinks all night.
Don’t worry my fellow music lovers, I have a solution … several of them, and they’re FREE.
One of EpiCentre’s newest spots, Mortimer’s, hosts an open mike night every Monday with acoustic singer/songwriter Ryan Hart. Drink specials include $3 Miller Lite and $4 Absolute cocktails.
Wild Wing Cafe follows up on Tuesday with their Open Mike Night. Enjoy $3 Miller Lite or share a bucket for $15. Maybe you’ll be inspired to belt out your favorite tune or share something original.
Pavilion hosts free live music every Thursday during Alive After Five. Regardless of the heat, you can find me dancing very badly to The Breakfast Club. I have 80s dance moves that would make the late great Michael Jackson cry. This Thursday The Frontiers will play Journey’s greatest hits.
Each Friday night BlackFinn and Good Eats and Meets Charlotte are partnering to host “Friday’s at the Finn” 4-8 p.m. with live music, buckets of beer, and free appetizers. Sounds like a great way to end the week with friends or co-workers.
Several venues sporadically host free performances by amazing musicians, such as The Script, who played one of only three US shows right on Pavilion’s stage. Last week, I enjoyed Whisky River’s video release party for Tim Dugger, an upcoming country musician. Dugger played a mix of old, new, and original country music that got me singing – very badly – along to Hank, George, and Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee.” Mark your calendar’s for Wednesday, August 4 when Whisky hosts the Marshall Tucker Band!
So if you’re music lovers like Mr. Marley and me, get hit this summer with free live music at EpiCentre. Take a break from you reality- sing, dance and feel no pain. For more information follow The EpiCentre Socialite, @EpiLite, on twitter!
